Pensacola, FL. – First he became a reality TV star as a contestant on the hit CBS show “Survivor.” Then he took a shot at being a professional poker player in Las Vegas. Now “Boston Rob” Mariano is sharing what he’s learned so far in his new book, The Boston Rob Rulebook: Strategies for Life.
A quick read at just 86 pages, The Boston Rob Rulebook packs in an ample amount of lessons that Mariano has compiled over the years, both as a reality TV star and as a kid growing up in Boston.
“Basically these are the rules I live by,” says Mariano. “Some are from my parents, some are from teachers and coaches, and some are just from my experiences and mistakes I’ve made along the way. There’s even a few I’ve picked up during my time on Survivor and other shows. All of them together form sort of a roadmap for living my life. They’ve been invaluable to me, and I think others can benefit from them as well.”
The Boston Rob Rulebook covers everything from knowing when and when not to talk, to knowing your enemies and what they’re up to, to understanding how to read people. The “rules” aren’t all of a serious nature, however.
“After all,” says Mariano, “you should ever take yourself too seriously.”
After competing on Survivor’s fourth season, Survivor Marquesas, Mariano married fellow Survivor contestant Amber Brkich on a live, 2-hour CBS special. The two of them competed together on the network’s multi-Emmy-award-winning show, The Amazing Race. Then, in 2011, Mariano emerged as the “Sole Survivor” on the show’s 22nd season, Survivor: Redemption Island.
